Occupation: Field Deputy for Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn
Hobbies, interests, travels: Shortly after graduation from MU, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in journalism. After 10 years in newspaper writing, I joined Habitat for Humanity, where I helped raise funds to build 50 homes for needy families. Now I work for the City of Los Angeles, doing everything from building new parks to installing stop signs. I married relatively late in life, so I have been very busy having three kids in the last five years. My husband made us all proud this year by becoming a Pulitzer finalist for his photos in Falloujah, Iraq. When we have a few minutes to catch our breath, we enjoy entertaining friends, hiking and relaxing at the beach.
Favorite Truman memory or story: I'll never forget when Senora Rice, my Spanish teacher, fell to the floor and rolled around kicking and screaming with laughter when one of my classmates tried to say (in Spanish) "President Reagan mounted the horse," (el caballo). Instead he said "President Reagan mounted the caballero," which means "soldier."
Message: I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Sometimes I envy people who live in their hometown all of their lives. They have these lifelong connections that I've missed out on living so far away. I am very proud of my roots and feel that many of you will always be with me in my heart. I know it sounds corny, but it's true.
